Power of the Vacuum Cleaner

Starting a career as a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman is no doubt a difficult one. A certain young vacuum cleaner salesman knocked on a door only to find that the woman who answered had no electricity and so she could not use the vacuum cleaner…or so she thought. The resourceful salesman knocked on her neighbor’s door and asked if he could run an extension cord from her house through the window to the other house for the demonstration. Both women watched the demonstration and before he left, he had convinced them to split the cost of the vacuum cleaner and they would share the vacuum cleaner and the electricity. That young salesman grew from his first job into real estate and ended up being one of San Diego’s more successful real estate developers.

Being resourceful and refusing to quit are traits that are at the top of the list for successful sales people and employees. Whether it’s a customer needing a solution or an internal process that needs correcting, look for the person that won’t stop until they find an answer that works.
